The Culture System Checklists

The Culture System Checklists

Surgeons use them. Pilots rely on them. Engineers build with them. Over the last century, the simple checklist has saved more lives, money, and time across every major industry than almost any other tool, because complex systems fall apart without them.

Leading a team through a season is its own complex system. With everything competing for your attention, coaching can feel like flying an airplane or performing heart surgery, and that’s exactly when culture routines get sacrificed first. High-performing teams don’t rely on memory or motivation to build culture. They rely on repeatable systems, because a winning culture requires discipline and consistency.

That’s why you need at least two checklists: a monthly checklist and a 12-month seasonal checklist. Your monthly list holds the core routines that keep culture alive, like team culture time, one-on-one athlete check-ins, standards reviews, and leadership council meetings. Your 12-month list maps the bigger moments of the year, from player one-on-ones and onboarding to your team manifesto and culture days.

Checklists remove the cognitive overload and the guesswork, freeing you to focus on what matters most so you can bring your best self every day. Start by scheduling dates for your core routines this month, then map out the full year.
